Sharon Dowey MSP lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament, congratulating Blackthorn Salt, who recently won a prestigious Golden Fork at the 2024 Great Taste Awards.

Sharon met with owners Gregorie and Whirly Marshall, and was given a tour of their site, on Saltpans Road, Ayr, exploring the world’s only salt producing Graduation Thorn Tower, their Pan House, where the final parts of their production process are completed, and their 6-wheeled former Victorian railway carriage, which acts as Blackthorn’s HQ, hosting many trade visitors all year round.

Sharon Dowey MSP said: “It was a pleasure to visit Blackthorn Salt in Ayr, and present them with a parliamentary motion, congratulating them on their win at the 2024 Great Taste Awards. The whole team at Blackthorn Salt do fantastic work, and it was great to visit their site, and see their natural and sustainable process in action."

“I have no doubt there are many more great things to come from Blackthorn Salt. I look forward to watching them continue to go from strength to strength, and I wish them every success for the future.”

Blackthorn Salt Co-Founder Whirly Marshall said: “Winning the Golden Fork for Scotland was an incredible moment for Blackthorn, such an honour for us, but also humbling given the astonishing calibre of fellow producers. We are thrilled to have been presented with this motion and thank Sharon very much.”
